The Superior Common Council on Dec. 7 approved awarding a bid to purchase one midsize articulated wheel loader for $106,100 from Nortrex Equipment of Ashland and delayed action on a second, larger loader because of a pricing/math discrepancy in the vendor's bid.
Assistant Public Works Director Gitzman presented the bid recommendation for a midsize and a large articulated wheel loader with listed prices of $106,100 and approximately $173,700, respectively. Councilor Finsland questioned the math on the large loader's bid and trade-in values; Public Works staff said the original packet contained a typographical or calculation error and agreed to obtain corrected numbers before proceeding with the large loader purchase.
Councilor Dalbec moved and councilors approved a motion to purchase only the midsize articulated wheel loader for $106,100 and to defer approval of the large loader until corrected bid information is provided. Council members discussed that the units being traded in were 12 and 14 years old and had high hours, prompting the replacement decision.
