Assistant public works director Jeff said the city "have been working with CIVMEC and the reinsurance that goes beyond the limits that CIVMEC cover to try to file our claim and get that, finalized. We've recovered, I think, from CIVMEC so far." He added staff are "trying to . . . see what the cost will be and what the difference will be and what we can recover."
Dan Gethseman clarified the insurance layering the council heard about: "Per truck? The 50,000 comes through Civic, less our deductible. Everything over and above 50,000 comes from the reinsurance company, the layer." Jeff also clarified the city’s per‑truck deductible: "our deductible on each of these is 5,000." Councilors said both vehicles appear to be total losses; staff gave an approximate vehicle valuation of about $125,000 to $135,000 each with add‑ons.
Motion and vote: Councilor Dalbec moved the item, seconded by Mr. Harrick; the council voted in favor and the item passed as part of the consent agenda.
Staff said they are working with adjusters and reinsurance carriers to determine final recoveries and the city will pursue replacement purchases once cost differences are determined.
