Superior council withdraws proposed sewer rate increase for further review

The Superior Common Council on Nov. 3 voted to withdraw a proposal to increase sewer system rates so staff could provide more detailed projections and answer council and public concerns.
Mayor Ross said the finance committee, led by Gene Vito, and wastewater plant staff requested more time to provide better answers and projections. "We're gonna ask that you that we withdraw this recommendation and give us more time to come back with a more satisfactory answer," Mayor Ross said.
Councilor Bender moved to withdraw the recommendation; Councilor McDonald seconded the motion. The council approved the withdrawal by voice vote. The item will return to the council at a later meeting with additional information, according to council remarks during the session.
Finance Director Gene Vito had submitted updated information regarding the proposed sewer system rate increase; wastewater treatment staff (identified in the meeting as Mr. Romans) participated in preparing the updated materials, according to the council discussion.
