The Superior City Council voted to approve a revised 2011 general fund operating budget of $27,505,329 and set a public hearing for Nov. 3 at 6:30 p.m.
The action gives the public an opportunity to comment before final adoption; Finance Director Vita told the council the hearing may occur after initial approval under state statute and the council may still change the budget after that hearing.
Councilor Olsen asked, “I guess I'm wondering, it all seems fine, but why we would be approving the the operating budget before we set the required public hearing?” Finance Director Vita replied, “We have, by statute, we we approve the budget, then you set the public hearing x amount of days after the budget has been approved. You still have an opportunity to change the budget if you wish to after the public hearing.”
Councilor Dalbec moved the measure; Councilor McKenzie seconded. Seeing no further discussion, the council voted and the motion passed.
The council set the public hearing for Nov. 3 at 6:30 p.m.; members and staff said the hearing will be the formal opportunity for public comment before final adoption.
