The Lynn Haven City Commission on June 10 approved Ordinance 1181, amending the Unified Land Development Code to address portable storage units and to permit temporary placement in front yards under specified conditions.
City Attorney Amy Myers explained the ordinance covers size and location limits, temporary front-yard placement and requires anchoring of permanent accessory structures. The ordinance text originally set a 10-day temporary allowance; during public comment and discussion the commission amended the ordinance to permit a 10-foot maximum height (up from 9 feet in the draft) and to extend the temporary placement period to 30 days.
Resident Lloyd Keel told the commission that many portable structures are 9 feet 6 inches tall in commercial manufacture and suggested both a higher allowable height and a longer temporary window. Commissioner Peebles and other commissioners endorsed those changes; Peebles moved to approve the ordinance with the two amendments and Commissioner Purnell seconded. Myers and the city manager confirmed the extension to the temporary allowance may be granted by written approval of the city manager. The commission set the ordinance’s effective date as the day of passage.
