Lynn Haven adopts annual cycle for peddler permits, keeps $1,000 bond requirement

The Lynn Haven City Commission on June 10 adopted Ordinance 1180, revising the city code for peddling permits so permits will expire on Dec. 31 each year and be brought onto a single annual cycle.
City Attorney Amy Myers said the ordinance “provides for expiration of permits annually on December 31” and that current permit holders would be permitted to keep their current permits in force for one year so everyone will transition to the same cycle.
The ordinance updates application and permit elements and assigns administration of the permit program to the Lynn Haven Police Department. Myers told the commission the ordinance retains a $1,000 surety bond requirement and that the bond is per applicant; she added the dollar value is the city’s bond amount and the actual cost to an applicant may be lower. The commission directed staff to return a resolution setting the administrative fee; the ordinance itself does not set that fee.
Commissioners did not change the ordinance language at final reading. The vote was unanimous: Commissioner Purnell — yes; Commissioner Peebles — yes; Commissioner Ward — yes; Commissioner Tender — yes; Mayor Jesse Nelson — yes.
The commission approved the ordinance on final reading with immediate effect. Staff said a separate resolution to set the administrative fee will be brought to a future meeting.
