Mrs. Simpson, a city staff member, presented a revised employee handbook to the Board of Works and Safety on June 9 to bring city personnel policies into compliance with current federal and state requirements.
"We have before you a revised employee handbook that was prepared by Credevolve, to basically bring all the policies up to date with the current federal and state laws...There is a significant change to the employee PTO policy that will take it from the bucket system of sick vacation personal to basically just making all that time available to the employee to use, you know, for whatever reason that they would have," Mrs. Simpson said.
Board members asked a few clarifying questions about the updates and timeline. A board member moved to approve the changes; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote.
The approved handbook replaces the separate sick, vacation and personal leave categories with a single paid time off bank and updates other language and dates throughout the handbook. An effective date for the change was not specified during the meeting; staff did not provide a detailed implementation schedule in the discussion.
