Council hears community updates: clothing-reuse pilot, cleanup volunteer numbers, public-arts unveiling

During commission and board reports at the June 9 Hilliard City Council meeting, council members and commissioners shared several community updates and upcoming events.
Cynthia Vermillion, speaking for Destination Hilliard, directed residents to destinationhilliard.org for summer events. Vermillion also, speaking for the Environmental Sustainability Commission, described a Swayco pilot program collecting used clothing and other textiles through August for reuse; she said the closest drop-off for Hilliard residents is the Upper Arlington Public Service Center at 4100 Roberts Road.
Greg Betts, speaking for Keep Hilliard Beautiful, reported that on May 31 volunteers collected 27 bags of trash and one bag of recyclable material at Tinapple Plaza; 24 volunteers participated. A follow-up volunteer cleanup day was announced for June 21 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Advanced Drainage Systems parking lot, 4671 Raindrop Way.
Public arts reports noted a statue unveiling celebration at Hilliard Station Park timed to occur during a scheduled band break; council members encouraged attendance. Rec and Parks Advisory Commission and the Aging in Place Committee also announced upcoming meetings.
