Council OKs purchase of 32-seat lift-enabled bus for parks programming

The Hilliard City Council on June 9 approved Resolution 25R43 authorizing the City Manager to enter into an agreement with Transportation Equipment Sales Corporation (Tesco) to buy a replacement bus for the Recreation and Parks Department.
A city staff member identified the replacement as a 2026 Ford F-650 StarTrans Senator II HD, a 32-passenger, lift-enabled transportation bus, and said the purchase price is "just over $200,000." The bus will replace the department’s large transportation bus purchased in February 2004.
City staff said the purchase followed a request-for-proposals process that closed May 15, with three vendors submitting quotes. Staff reported that Tesco was selected based on price and the trade-in value offered for the current unit. The staff member said several staff reviewed and rated the quotes before recommending Tesco.
Councilmembers asked whether a 32-passenger bus would meet needs; staff replied the new vehicle is slightly larger than the current 28-passenger bus and adds lift capability. The staff member said larger-capacity models can create operational challenges on some trips and would increase cost because they typically require a heavier duty chassis.
The resolution passed on roll call, with all six councilmembers present voting yes. The clerk announced the resolution will be in effect at the earliest date allowable by law.
