Mayor Don Adams opened the event and framed Memorial Day as a time to remember “the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country,” saying the day “is more than just a day off or the unofficial start of summer.” Pastor Ed Green of Beavercreek Christian Church delivered an opening prayer asking for comfort for families who have lost loved ones. Col. Dustin Richards, commander of the 88th Air Base Wing at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, spoke about the sacrifices of service members and urged the community to honor their legacy by upholding the freedoms they defended.
The program included the Pledge of Allegiance, led by Eagle Scout Ethan Earhart of Scout Troop 71; a colors presentation and national anthem performed by the Air Force Band of Flight Red Brass; a gun salute from VFW Post 8312; and Taps played by Staff Sergeant James Newford, trumpeter with the Air Force Band of Flight. Mayor Adams also read a commemorative poem and thanked organizers including Beavercreek Parks and Recreation staff Kayla Sensabaugh and Aaron Harris.
Remarks emphasized gratitude to veterans, active-duty personnel, law enforcement, civic volunteers and families of the fallen. The ceremony highlighted community participation from the VFW, Beavercreek High School Junior ROTC, Scout Troop 71 and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base representatives. No formal municipal actions, votes, or policy decisions were made during the service.
