Residents praise turnout at Beavercreek planning open house; one resident calls for clearer options

Beavercreek — City council members said staff received strong public participation at a recent land-use open house; a resident who attended told the council the event did not meet expectations and asked for changes to how feedback is solicited.

Council members reported the open house at the senior center drew an unusually large turnout; Councilman Little said the session lasted nearly two hours and produced "good input." Council member Kern praised the public’s concise comments and the quality of written submissions, and Councilwoman Schwartz thanked staff for organizing the event. Vice Mayor Bales said many attendees had been long-time residents and that several were supportive of an income-tax initiative discussed at community conversations.

At public comment, Bob Trout, who gave his address as 2187 Bassett Court, said he attended the open house and found deficiencies: "There was no contractor there" and some station volunteers "could not answer" questions, he said. He also criticized the written materials and display choices, saying the format presented only forced-choice preferences and lacked an option for attendees to indicate opposition to specific items (for example, high-density housing). Trout offered to work with the city on improving the format.

Council members acknowledged the comment and reiterated appreciation for public engagement. No formal action or changes to the planning process were recorded in the meeting minutes; staff indicated they will continue outreach and may return with follow-up material.
