Beavercreek proclaims June 2025 Scleroderma Awareness Month

Beavercreek — Mayor Don Adams and the Beavercreek City Council on Monday proclaimed June 2025 as Scleroderma Awareness Month and urged citizens to support the Scleroderma Foundation.
The proclamation noted scleroderma is an autoimmune connective tissue disease that can cause thickening and tightening of the skin and damage to internal organs. It said onset most frequently occurs between ages 25 and 55, and cited estimates of about 15,000 Ohioans and 300,000 people in the United States being affected. The proclamation also noted that while there is no cure, prompt diagnosis and treatment can reduce symptoms.
A representative accepting the proclamation said the issue is personal: her mother died of scleroderma on Dec. 25, 2004, and the family’s anniversary events and an annual fundraising bowling event in Beaver View Bowl will continue to raise awareness. The representative thanked the mayor, council and community for support.
The proclamation will be forwarded to the Scleroderma Foundation’s national office, according to the presenter. No binding policy or budget action accompanied the proclamation; it was a ceremonial recognition.
