Council approves Cummins maintenance agreement for city generators

The Odessa City Council approved a maintenance agreement with Cummins for the city’s standby generators at the water treatment plant, the Darrington wastewater facility and the Yukon pump station.

A utilities department representative said the agreement will provide quarterly maintenance and call‑out service for generators that run critical infrastructure when the city loses power. The units described in the presentation included a 2,000‑kilowatt generator at the water treatment plant, a 1,250‑kilowatt generator at the Darrington wastewater plant and a 350‑kilowatt generator at the Yukon pump station.

The presenter said the city currently relies on on‑call service and that the maintenance agreement is expected to be more economical and provide regular preventive service. Staff told council the work will be paid from the utilities budgets for the water treatment and Darrington plants and that funds are available.

Council voted to approve the agreement unanimously. Staff said they will compile a complete list of city generators and explore whether to consolidate them under the same service contract.
