Council approves additional funds to complete illuminated gateway signs project

The City of Orange City council approved a change order and a budget amendment to complete the city’s gateway and wayfinding signage project after staff reported cost increases.
What the council approved: The council authorized change order No. 4 to the gateway and wayfinding signage contract (contract P230-24) and adopted Budget Amendment Resolution 372-25 to fund the additional work and contingency. City Manager Dale Arrington said the project required more funds than originally budgeted; he disclosed that the project’s contingency was exceeded and asked for the additional appropriation to finish and illuminate the signs.
Numbers and outcome: The motion approved the change order totaling $30,047.15 and authorized the city manager to execute the change order and subsequent change orders not to exceed a revised contingency amount of 5% (specified in the agenda). Council comment and context: Arrington apologized for overspending the original contingency and told the council staff discovered the need and moved quickly to request the amendment.
