Barrington updates timeline for Union Pacific crossing gates after Illinois Commerce Commission hearing

Village President Michael Moran told the Barrington Village Board on June 9 that the village is coordinating with Union Pacific and the Illinois Commerce Commission on the project to install crossing gates and related right-of-way work.
Moran said the village asked the Illinois Commerce Commission for monthly status hearings so "all parties continue to work together expeditiously on the project." He said the parties have agreed on a draft interim order for reimbursement of engineering design costs that is expected to be approved later in June 2025.
Moran said Union Pacific will begin engineering design work soon and estimated that design would take about four months, after which the railroad will determine final project costs and materials. He said the village is continuing to prepare construction documents and coordinate with Union Pacific on right-of-way issues. The next status hearing before the Illinois Commerce Commission is set for July 9, 2025.
The report to the board was presented as an update; no formal action or vote was taken at the June 9 meeting. The board noted the timeline and that the village remains committed to providing regular updates to the public as the project moves through engineering and regulatory steps.
