The City of Orange City council approved an amendment to the city’s pay-classification schedule to reflect current and planned positions and limited incentive pay for certified classifications.
Action taken: By roll-call vote the council adopted Resolution 373-25, which updates the general pay schedule to add or reestablish classifications including a mechanic, planning technician (reclassification to executive assistant), special-events supervisor, customer-support classification, stormwater crew chief, senior water treatment plant operator and the police lieutenant classification.
Incentives and budget impact: City Manager Dale Arrington told the council the change is largely administrative and does not have a direct budgetary impact. The resolution also authorizes two small incentive opportunities: up to a 5% pay increase for community service aides upon completion of specified certifications from the Florida Association of Code Enforcement Officers or the Florida Association of Animal Control Officers. Arrington said those incentives will have “a very minor effect on the budget.”
Council votes: The resolution passed unanimously by roll call. No immediate appropriation was attached to the action; Arrington said the updated pay schedule will support forthcoming recruitment and the scope for a planned pay-classification study.
