Barrington Village Board proclaims June 2025 as Pride Month

The Barrington Village Board on June 9 proclaimed June 2025 as Pride Month, with Village President Michael Moran reading the board—s statement praising local organizations and urging respect for LGBTQIA+ residents.

The proclamation, read on behalf of the village board, recognized efforts by the Barrington Area Pride organization, the Gay–Straight Alliance at Barrington High School and the community initiative "We Belong to Each Other." It declared the village—s commitment to "providing a place where residents and visitors feel welcomed, respected and safe regardless of age, beliefs, color, disability, ethnicity, identity, race, religion, creed, or sexual orientation," and called on residents to promote mutual respect, particularly during National Pride Month.

"I, Michael Moran, president of the Village of Barrington, on behalf of the village board, do hereby express our appreciation to all those in our community who exhibit and work to foster greater understanding and respect to all regardless of differences," the proclamation states, as read by Moran.

Trustees on the board acknowledged the proclamation during the meeting and thanked those who helped prepare it. No formal vote separate from the board—s recognition was required; the proclamation was presented as a ceremonial item on the agenda.

The proclamation names local groups involved in outreach and school-based organizing but does not create new village programs or change existing policies. It functions as an official recognition from the village and a public statement of support for community activities during June 2025.
