The City of Live Oak City Council voted to approve Ordinance 15-36 to change the land-use designation for a small corner of a lot that contains Suwannee Insurance Agency, bringing that portion of the parcel into conformity with the city's comprehensive plan and land development regulations.
City staff told the council that when the corner containing Suwannee Insurance Agency was annexed into the city it retained a county commercial land-use designation and that the mismatch was identified during a 2012 comprehensive plan update. The change in the ordinance revises that corner from county commercial intensive to city commercial intensive so the parcel will be a conforming property on the city land-use map.
Staff said the request went before the Planning and Zoning Board on Monday, May 19, where the board unanimously passed a resolution recommending council approval. The staff report included a map, photographs and a proposed ordinance; staff recommended approval as consistent with the comprehensive plan and the future development of the area. During the public hearing portion of the agenda, staff asked if any members of the public wished to speak; none were recorded.
Council deliberation proceeded with a motion to approve the ordinance reading. There was no discussion recorded on the motion; the council voice vote was recorded as "aye" with no opposition noted and the ordinance reading was completed.
At the end of the meeting, Councilmember Kirk reminded residents that beginning July 1 city crews will pick up only city-issued garbage cans and asked residents who have not received one to contact city hall to arrange a replacement.
