The Keene City Council agreed at its June 10 meeting to schedule three budget workshops in July — July 10, 17 and 24 — each starting at 6 p.m., to review the proposed fiscal 2025–26 budget and discuss strategy before the formal adoption process.
City Manager Jonathan Seitz told the council he wants to shift the budgeting paradigm away from across‑the‑board cuts and toward revenue development and program options; he asked council to consider a fleet program and other revenue‑focused items during workshops. Seitz said staff will present budget scenarios so councilors can see choices and implications before they vote.
Several council members said a standing budget committee can make the process easier when members’ schedules are tight; council directed staff to post the three special meetings for full council and to proceed with workshops that weeknight series. Councilor Chapman and others said having all members participate when possible would avoid repeated catch‑ups later.
Council also discussed whether to hold committee meetings versus full‑council special meetings; the decision to post the three dates keeps options open while boosting transparency for the broader public.
