Board hears operations resolutions: student badging, two new school names and Walton consolidation into Clark

District operations staff briefed the Board of Education on a package of operations resolutions that will be presented for formal consideration at the June 24 business meeting, including a student badging program, the opening and naming of new schools, and school consolidations.
Student badging: The board was told the district will seek authorization to contract with Identifoto to implement a districtwide student badging system for PreK–12 at a cost not to exceed $200,000. Staff said Identifoto will create badge templates, configure data and photographs, print badges and distribute them to schools. The administration described the badges as multifunctional tools to support attendance tracking, optimize bus ridership, streamline nutrition program processes and strengthen building security.
New school names and consolidation: The board will be asked to authorize the opening and naming of two newly constructed PreK–8 buildings: the school at 6601 Franklin Boulevard will be named Joseph M. Gallagher School (the name of the previous school on the site), and the building at 5412 Clark Avenue will be named Clark School (restoring a historic name). Consistent with the district’s long‑term school plan, the board will also be asked to close Walden School and consolidate its students into the new Clark School at the start of the 2025–26 year.
Transportation and fuel contracts: Resolutions include routine term agreements for transportation of special education, foster and McKinney‑Vento students, routing/GPS and student‑tracking software renewal with Education Logistics Inc., fuel purchases through the Ohio Schools Council cooperative, and an agreement with Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority for student transit passes (not to exceed $3.3 million for 2025–26).
Leases and other operations: The board will consider a one‑year lease extension with Montessori Development Partnerships for Stonebrook Montessori property at $1 per year through 06/30/2026, and a one‑year lease extension with the Great Lakes Science Center for the ninth‑grade MC Squared STEM Academy at current rent.
Why it matters: The badging system and routing upgrades were presented as investments in student safety, attendance and operational efficiency. The naming and consolidation follow the board’s previously adopted long‑term school plan and voter‑approved building program.
