Arts for All coordinator briefs board on summer camp partnerships, student activities

Rhonda Norell, coordinator of the Arts for All summer camp program, updated the Lee Seward Independent School District No. 8 board on this summer’s activities and partnerships with district schools.
Norell said the program partnered with district schools at sites including the Life Ready Center and the Cleveland School and that “we've hired almost 30 teachers for the program this year.” She described arts activities ranging from dance and theater puppetry to visiting performers such as Painted Sky Opera and “Bach and the Boombox.”
Norell said volunteers and staff escorted students on field trips and that the program helped feed children during the summer: with board support and grant funding the program provided breakfast and lunch and planned family events with snacks and hot dogs. She said, “we're hoping also on the fourth Wednesday to bring in another event with Bach and Moon Box for families at the Life Ready Center, have snacks, have hot dogs.” The coordinator reported recent museum visits saw about 100 children, and another participant in the meeting clarified the number as 109 children at the museum last week.
Norell thanked the board for funding for busing, meals, janitorial needs and other site preparations. She said Arts for All supplements school staff and volunteers to expand hands-on arts exposure for students during the summer.
