The Traffic and Parking Commission approved NDOT’s request to remove the existing loading zone on the south side of Broadway between 19th Street and Lyle Avenue and to extend the no‑parking zone on both sides of Broadway from Lyle to West End Avenue, with NDOT directed to return in five months with additional data and a follow-up report.
Commission members noted heavy pedestrian activity around the Broadview residential development and nearby businesses such as the Turnip Truck and suggested NDOT consider traffic-calming measures and a pedestrian beacon. An unnamed commissioner urged the department to “look all the way up to 20 First,” citing frequent mid‑block crossings; the commission asked NDOT to include that stretch in its evaluation.
Andrew Smith of NDOT said staff can deploy LIDAR equipment and collect pedestrian-movement data at the intersection to evaluate whether stop control, signalization or other treatments are warranted. One commissioner moved to approve with a rereport in five months; the motion was seconded and passed. The commission also asked NDOT to evaluate removal of the trolley stop and to monitor other curbside users such as party buses and EVs when implementing the change.
