Committee approves impacted‑tenants application form; program still being set up

Alderman Aldridge presented an updated application form for the impacted‑tenants program tied to earlier disaster legislation (board bill 23 and related items). The revised form captures applicant contact information, impacted address, date of damage, household income and demographic data, landlord or property manager contact information, and a reporting section about whether an applicant has already found alternative housing. Aldridge said the updates reflect input from Employment Connections (the anticipated vendor), the mayor's office and the Department of Human Services.

Committee members and staff discussed documentation requirements and operational details. Vice Chair (committee) raised a concern that some long‑term, lower‑income tenants may not have a current signed lease; Employment Connections confirmed the agency will accept the most recent lease available and work with applicants who are month‑to‑month or lack up‑to‑date paper documentation. Committee members also suggested collecting a current mailing address for displaced residents; staff noted alternative contact methods (email, alternative phone numbers) will be used where applicants are displaced.

Aldridge emphasized the program is not yet active: staff from Employment Connections and DHS are finalizing operations and outreach. Committee members urged rapid setup and broad public notice when applications open.

The committee voted to approve the application form for the impacted‑tenants fund and directed staff to continue program setup and public outreach. Aldridge said the city expects to publish application availability once Employment Connections and DHS complete operational procedures.
