St. Marys introduces new firefighter Jake Pence; department reaches five-per-shift staffing

The St. Marys City Council on an evening meeting introduced firefighter Jake Pence, who will join the department’s emergency-medical services team and complete paramedic training, Fire Chief Harris said.
Chief Harris introduced Pence as “our newest firefighter,” saying Pence is a graduate of Houston High School and earned firefighter and EMT certifications. “Jake will continue his EMS training by completing his paramedic certification for the state and he completes bringing our department up to staffing of 5 per shift,” Chief Harris said.
The hire follows routine personnel updates presented during the council’s petitions and communications section. Director Fox Hill and Maria Herbert joined Chief Harris in the introduction; Pence briefly addressed the council after the introduction.
Council members and guests paused after the swearing-in for informal celebration of the new hire. No formal council action was required; the introduction was presented as an informational personnel announcement.
