Council adopts Pride and Juneteenth resolutions to mark June observances

The Grandview Heights City Council on June 9 approved two ceremonial resolutions: Resolution 21-2025, expressing support for LGBTQ+ residents and Pride Month; and Resolution 22-2025, recognizing June 19, 2025, as Juneteenth Day in Grandview Heights.
Council member Kozak, who introduced the Pride resolution, said, "When I started on council in 2022, it was important for me, to use my role here and my voice for people from marginalized communities." He said the resolution is "something that I feel is a minimum we could do as a community."
Council member Goudeck introduced the Juneteenth resolution and described it as an effort to "keep it highlighted, to remind people that it celebrates the end of slavery and just for us to remember the history from our country." Both resolutions were moved and approved.
A roll-call vote recorded for the Pride resolution showed affirmative votes from Kozak, Gonzales, Smith, Weiss, Walker, Houston and President Keeler; the clerk announced Resolution 21-2025 approved. The council later approved the Juneteenth resolution. The clerk said copies of the resolutions would be sent to the city's state legislators when relevant.
Both measures were framed as symbolic expressions of community values and did not change city policy or budgets.
