Grandview Heights plans full reconstruction of Erwin tennis courts; design phase to finish this summer

Director Patterson, speaking for the city's infrastructure and parks department, told the City Council on June 9 that the city has budgeted a complete reconstruction of the tennis courts at Erwin Park and is in "the final stages of contractual agreement with the design selection team."
"We hope to have that here, ideally by the end of the month," Director Patterson said. He described a process of summer design work, a public bid this fall and an award this fall; construction, he said, is weather dependent and likely would begin next year.
Parks staff described the project scope as replacing the court surface, all fencing and lighting. Patterson said the project is "partially supported by some school funding," and officials aim to limit disruption so work affects only one sports season for the high-school teams that use the courts.
Tom McCoy, a resident and former tennis coach, offered his experience and volunteered help for future planning. Council members asked procurement questions; Director Patterson said the city can use a "lowest and best" or "best value" selection and that local firms such as Total Tennis would be invited to bid.
No formal council vote was recorded on the reconstruction at the June 9 meeting; staff reported the project budget is in place and the next steps are finalizing the design contract and preparing bid documents. The council was told construction timing remains dependent on weather and coordination with school schedules.
