Leonardtown council backs letter of support for Smash House liquor license

The Leonardtown Town Council voted Monday to send a letter of support for Smash House LLC’s application for a Class B restaurant liquor license for on‑ and off‑site alcohol sales and for an extension of premises tied to outdoor seating at 41656 Fenwick Street.

The council’s letter will accompany the applicant’s liquor‑license submission; the outdoor seating area had already been approved by the council on March 10, 2025, staff said. The owner of the building, Jim Hiles, told the council the outdoor seating will be shared between two businesses and that the deck would be divided to address separation concerns. “The board is usually concerned about separation from sidewalk and from adjoining businesses,” Hiles said, noting the planned division of the space.

Council members asked about timing and build‑out; the applicant said an opening in October or November was likely. Councilmember (unnamed) moved to send the letter of support; the motion carried by voice vote. No public opposition was recorded during the discussion.
