Central York Curriculum Committee forwards music, AP biology and English 3 maps to full board

On June 9, 2025, the Central York School District Curriculum Committee reviewed and agreed to forward a set of curriculum maps covering music, an updated AP Biology map and English 3 (regular and honors) to the full school board.
The committee said the maps formalize curriculum content and expectations for multiple courses and will allow the full board to consider adoption. The music package includes advanced music theory, high school orchestra (regular and honors), middle school orchestra, music production 1 and 2, high school band (regular and honors); the honors designation was described as tied to jury performance and additional solo/individual performance requirements rather than different class periods.
Committee members emphasized the work already done by teachers to develop the maps. A committee member commented, “The kids are learning incredible things, things that were never even around when I was in school related to music.” The presenter said the honors distinction is driven chiefly by performance/jury components rather than different classroom content.
On science, the committee reviewed a revised AP Biology curriculum map that reflects changes from the College Board. The presenter noted a comprehensive redline file and described a separate “clean” map; the presenter said the AP Biology map runs roughly 92 pages in its full revised form and that most of the changes follow College Board course requirements.
For English language arts, the committee received English 3 and English 3 Honors maps. Committee members were told the two courses share overarching content but differ in selected texts, resources and expectations for rigor; the honors course advances the same anchor content to higher-level analysis and additional resources.
Committee members were also briefed on recent curriculum-writing work. The presenter reported a day-long writing “hub” at the high school where K–12 ELA and K–12 math maps, several business courses including Accounting 1 and 2 and Business Basics, and other courses were drafted by teachers. The presenter said additional music course maps remain scheduled for July.
As a formal outcome the committee agreed to forward the presented curriculum maps to the full school board for consideration; no roll-call vote or mover/second was recorded in the meeting transcript. The committee indicated it will report progress to the board at its next regular meeting and circulate the full packet as part of BoardDocs for the board’s review ahead of that meeting.
The review addressed only the materials presented in committee; the presenter and members noted that additional music maps and final drafts on other subjects will be submitted later in the summer.
