John, the municipal administrator, told council the grant will advance a project the city has been coordinating with the Toledo‑Lucas County Port Authority, which owns 48 acres behind the proposed park. “The city approved the plat and the design for road, water and sewer utilities,” John said, and the grant “will go a long way to getting this project to fruition.”
In a separate award, the city received $8,863 for a rectangular rapid‑flashing beacon (RRFB) to mark a crosswalk on Village Parkway at Canal Road. John said the RRFB equipment will be purchased with the grant; the city will cover installation costs.
Why it matters: The larger infrastructure grant reduces the local capital burden for extending utilities and roadways needed to serve new industrial development. The RRFB is a pedestrian safety improvement for a corridor where councilors reported a recent crash involving a student.
Next steps: John said the comprehensive‑plan update will go to the planning commission in July and then return to council for consideration. He also said Canal Road was patched and will be resurfaced next year following water‑line work. Council and staff did not approve any new spending during the June 9 meeting beyond acceptance of the grants.
