Fort Atkinson Middle School promotes students, honors academic award winners

Fort Atkinson Middle School held a promotion ceremony that recognized students moving on to high school and honored academic achievers, school leaders said.

"To our graders, congratulations. You've absolutely earned this moment," Principal Matt Wolf said, opening the ceremony and thanking teachers, staff and families for their support. District Superintendent Dr. Rob Abbott joined the program and told students the promotion marked the start of a new chapter: "This is, in fact ... the beginning of something new."

The ceremony named students by homeroom and recognized schoolwide achievements. School leaders said four homerooms were called for recognition: Mrs. Gladden, Mrs. Saxey, Mr. Reed and Mrs. Smith. Teachers and administrators presented names of promoted students and recognized extracurricular participation in sports and clubs across the school.

Staff announced 22 students who earned an academic excellence award by achieving a cumulative grade-point average of 3.94 or higher through the quarter. School officials also presented $500 scholarships, including one administered through a scholarship program referenced by a school principal during remarks, and named individual scholarship recipients.

Students gave short remarks reflecting on middle school experiences and the transition to high school; staff thanked families and encouraged graduates to get involved and take advantage of high school opportunities. The program included recognition of school activities, a recent school trip to Noah's Ark mentioned by students, and closing remarks urging graduates to "create" their future.

Families were invited to join scholarship presentations after the ceremony. No formal policy actions or votes were taken at the event; it was a school recognition ceremony rather than a governing-body meeting.
