Representatives from Partners in Education outlined volunteer growth since 2018, a rise from 35 mentors after COVID to 124 volunteers this school year, and said the program returned roughly $48,544 in volunteer and partner value for last year. The group requested the same $10,000 the district provided previously; the board approved the request unanimously.
Partners in Education said funds help sustain programs including a book voucher program (distributing free books at Scholastic Book Fairs), BAM/GLOBE volunteer expansions into additional schools, and partner donations to family resource centers. The group reported 620 students received free books through the voucher effort and said corporate sponsors recently added Stockyard Bank and DSM.
The motion to award the $10,000 came from board member Thomas and was seconded by board member Hall; the motion passed 5-0. District staff confirmed the funds will be administered through the district’s usual partner-donation processes and that the board will receive follow-up reporting.
