HINSDALE, Ill. — The Board of Trustees approved a 4% increase to village water rates to match a corresponding wholesale increase from the New Paltz Water Commission and ratified emergency repairs at the Hinsdale Community Pool totaling $39,000.
Trustee Pashzima (finance presentation) explained the New Page Water Commission purchased Lake Michigan water from Chicago and raised its rates by about 4%, leading village staff to propose a matching 4% rate increase for residents. The increase will appear on bills starting July 1 and staff estimated an average increase of roughly $9.50 per bimonthly bill (about $57 per year); the $15 infrastructure flat fee remains unchanged.
On the pool repair, staff reported that while filling the pool for summer, workers discovered a leak in the kiddie pool that required immediate repair before opening. Village staff authorized Chicago Trenchless Rehabilitation to perform the work — initially estimated at $35,500 with an additional $3,500 in follow-up work — for a total of $39,000, which exceeded the Village Manager's $25,000 spending authority and therefore required ratification. The 2025 capital plan contains $60,000 for pool repairs, leaving approximately $21,000 after the emergency repair; staff noted additional capital reserves are available if needed.
Ending: Trustees approved the rate ordinance and ratified the emergency repairs by roll-call votes; staff said they expect increased pool revenue this summer because a nearby community pool is closed for repairs.
