Village to rebuild parking-deck walkway; trustees award A Lamp construction contract

HINSDALE, Ill. — Trustees approved a contract with A Lamp Construction Contractors, Inc. to construct pedestrian enhancements between the downtown parking deck and First Street, a project funded primarily by a Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity grant and a $30,000 contribution from the Hinsdale Chamber of Commerce.
Public Services staff presented before-and-after renderings of the walkway connecting the parking deck exit to First Street, saying the current ramp and concrete approach suffer from cracking and poor aesthetics. The project will replace the worn concrete with brick-style paving, add landscaping, improve lighting and install wayfinding signs directing users to the downtown historic district.
Chair Burns said the project is timed to be completed this summer while A Lamp works on nearby resurfacing projects. The board waived competitive bidding and approved a guaranteed-maximum award not to exceed $87,947.50. Trustees said the work will improve pedestrian safety and match the downtown brick aesthetic.
Ending: Village staff said A Lamp can begin work this summer and that the improvements will be coordinated with the Chamber of Commerce easement grant and existing downtown signage and maintenance schedules.
