The Glynn County Board of Education approved a $570,000 purchase to replace lighting infrastructure at Glynn County Stadium, the board confirmed during its June 10 meeting as part of the consent agenda.
Mister Waters, a staff member who presented the request, told the board the purchase from Musco includes new luminaires, conduit and cabling; the current conduit and cables have not been replaced since the stadium opened in 1986. Waters said the existing poles will remain in place.
Waters said the project will add light behind the poles at stadium entry points and increase light levels in the bleachers, where current measurements were reported at 14%–20% of the recommended level; the project aims to bring bleacher lighting closer to the intended 50% candle-light level for improved safety.
The quoted cost of $570,000 will be paid from East Blos 5 funds, Waters said. The item was placed on the meeting’s consent agenda and approved as part of that package.
No additional conditions were attached at the time of approval. Board members had an opportunity to ask questions about the scope and about whether poles would be replaced; Waters confirmed the poles are being reused.
