The Marion City Council gave initial consideration to Ordinance No. 25‑19 to amend section 2.29.20 of the Marion Code of Ordinances concerning possession and use of fireworks, a change staff said was necessary to bring the city code into compliance with changes in state law.
Council members requested staff pursue a robust public outreach campaign to inform residents of the changes required by state law.
Separately, the council gave initial consideration to Ordinance No. 25‑20, which amends multiple sections of the municipal code including provisions on sound amplifiers in parks, operation of golf carts, snowplows for hire, and private hauler licenses. Staff clarified the parks provision differentiates Uptown Artway events from other parks and that council approval would be required for amplified sound exceeding the noise ordinance in parks.
Council approved final consideration of Ordinance No. 25‑05 amending Chapter 3.24 of the Marion Code of Ordinances relating to weed definitions and natural landscaping; the motion passed by voice vote and was recorded as final consideration approved.
All of the above actions were taken by council during the June 5 meeting; initial consideration items will return for final readings as required by ordinance procedure, and staff will continue outreach and implementation planning where state law or policy changes require public notification.
