The council authorized staff to solicit name suggestions for the city's new event facility and approved a contract award to KW Construction to perform renovations at 203 South Main, the former Noble Group Event Center.
Naming: City Manager Wayne Reid reviewed the city's naming policy and asked council for direction. Several council members favored a generic or location-based name (for example, "Old Town Event Center" or "Cibolo Event Center"); others suggested seeking community input. Council instructed staff to open an online suggestions portal and to solicit input from the Historic Committee; staff will run the solicitation for roughly 30 days and return in July with results for a decision. The council also discussed a formal ribbon-cutting once renovations are complete.
Renovation contract: Staff said one responsive bid was received for renovation work; KW Construction (which previously renovated City Hall) submitted the low responsive bid and staff recommended award. Council asked for a project timeline and a detailed bid breakdown; staff agreed to obtain a schedule and provide biweekly updates. Council approved authority for the city manager to negotiate and execute the contract; staff said the renovation includes interior upgrades such as flooring, kitchen/amenity work and mechanical improvements and that a one-year contractor warranty will be enforced.
Coin contest: Separately, Councilman McLaughlin proposed a community coin-design contest. Council members suggested youth-council, historic-committee or citywide contests and asked staff to investigate design and reprocurement costs; staff said current coin stock will last through December and that a redesign would add tooling or rerelease costs.
Ending: Staff will open the naming solicitation, ask the Historic Committee for options, finalize the KW contract timeline and return to council with the naming recommendations and a renovation schedule. The council approved the renovation award as presented.
