Agency staff told the board the award would support upgrades including flooring, lighting, plumbing and other interior improvements and that the property owner will perform exterior upgrades to match. "The business has served in North Miami community for over 20 years and is now proposing new renovations that will nearly double the current footprint," staff said, and recommended the award of $200,000.
The board opened and closed a public hearing on the item with no public comments recorded. Vice Chair Timothy made the motion to approve, board member Charles seconded, and the motion carried unanimously, 5-0.
Board members offered congratulations to Dr. Ogunleye during the meeting. One board member noted the project’s location in District 2 and described the proposed expansion as "transformational." Staff materials provided to the board included the business address and the application details.
The grant is recorded as part of the CRA’s consent and grant programs; staff included the award on the agency’s monthly report distributed to board members.
