The Pickens County Board of Commissioners approved a rezoning that moves 0.72 acres from a 39.46‑acre agricultural parcel to an adjoining rural residential property so the owner can create a conforming two‑acre rural residential lot.
The approval follows a presentation by Joyce Jones, who represented property owner Emerice Marbles and asked that the 0.72‑acre portion be rezoned from AG to RR and combined with an adjacent 1.3‑acre RR tract to create a 2‑acre parcel. "If it does fall into the rural residential character area, which is consistent with the proposed use," staff said, recommending approval with the condition that the rezoned portion be combined with the adjoining parcel.
Staff explained the change would correct a nonconforming lot and allow the owner to pursue compliant replacement or new construction when ready. The property is shown on county maps as parcel 050B008 (39.46 acres) and the adjoining parcel as 050B007. Joyce Jones said the combined parcel would be used for low‑intensity residential purposes and gardening as she plans to retire back to Pickens County.
The planning staff recommended approval and commissioners moved, seconded and voted to approve the rezoning; the public hearing was closed after no members of the public spoke.
This action was recorded as a staff‑recommended approval of RZ190943 with the condition that the rezoned portion be combined with the adjacent RR parcel.
