Alpharetta cultural services report: Spotlight space opens; Alpha Loop murals and Juneteenth events planned

Kimberly Zay, cultural services staff, updated the Recreation Board on arts programming, camps and the new Spotlight venue. She said ceramics enrollment grew from 298 clay students in 2024 to 437 this year, with supply fees rising from about $12,000 to $18,000.
Zay said the Spotlight venue is open and staff are booking the fall season; she reported theater-style seating could accommodate roughly 140 to 165 people depending on configuration and that the city is holding regular office hours at the venue. The Cultural Arts Master Plan is nearly complete and staff expect to present it to the Cultural Arts Commission in June, with a possible City Council review in July.
Zay described plans to add murals to two Alpha Loop bridges in partnership with the Alpha Loop Foundation; the foundation has raised funds to install two murals and the city will cover supplies while the foundation pays the artists. She also reviewed Juneteenth programming scheduled for June 19 and noted partnerships including Arts Alpharetta and the Atlanta Federation of Musicians; staff plan gallery receptions, student shows and community activities.
