Homewood council appoints members to beautification, library and park boards and reopens several vacancies

Homewood — The Homewood City Council on June 9 appointed citizens to several advisory boards, confirmed reappointments and instructed staff to reopen or verify ward-specific vacancies.

The council appointed Catherine Romanchuk to the Ward 3 Beautification Board after a motion by Councilor Brandt and a second by Councilor Simms; the vote was recorded as passing 9-0. Councilors also reappointed Kia Craft to the Library Board (motion moved by Councilor Aleman and seconded by Councilor Semmes), which passed 9-0. Allison Litton was appointed to the Park Board workforce position on a motion by Councilor Smith, seconded by Councilor Brandt; that appointment also passed 9-0.

President Jones noted several application deadlines and openings: Ward 2 Library Board and Ward 4 Abatement Board closing dates were discussed; President Jones said the Ward 2 Library Board application period closes on June 23. The council directed staff to coordinate interviews for park-board applicants and to contact applicants where residency questions arose.

Council discussion identified one ineligible applicant for a Ward 2 Park Board interview: the record shows a prospective applicant, Jack Little, with an address in Ward 3. Councilors asked staff (Beau) to contact Jack Little and Joe Levins to verify addresses and confirm eligibility before proceeding; council members agreed to carry any appointment action to the next meeting if verification is needed. Councilors instructed staff to reopen certain vacancy postings (for example, Ward 4 beautification and other ward-specific spots) and to extend application windows where appropriate.

The council also moved to open applications for other boards and to schedule interviews as needed; individual motions appointing members recorded unanimous or near-unanimous approval where votes were taken. Several appointments were recorded as passing 9-0 or 10-0 depending on the item.
