Board awards $264,111 contract to replace courthouse exterior doors

The Culpeper County Board of Supervisors approved a contract Jan. 10 to replace exterior doors on the county courthouse.

Facilities staff summarized a rebid that produced three bids; the low bidder, Phillips C and C LLC, submitted a price of $264,111 for secure steel and ballistic door assemblies for the lower level of the courthouse. Staff said funding is available in the county budget.

Facilities coordinator Mr. Howard told the board the prior single bid had been $284,351; the current low bid saves the county about $20,000. Board members asked about the contract’s construction schedule, noting the contract documents show a 45‑day window; staff said the schedule could be adjusted administratively and that much of the work is likely to be scheduled for weekend work to limit courthouse impacts.

The board moved and carried the contract award; the meeting record shows the motion passed with no recorded opposition.

What the work includes: The contract covers replacement of exterior lower‑level doors with secure steel and ballistic assemblies (staff referred to approximately ten door assemblies, typically two‑leaf installations) and includes scope, schedule and bonding requirements in the award documentation.

Next steps: County staff will finalize administrative contract details, confirm the construction schedule and issue a notice to proceed to the contractor.
