Chesapeake school board appoints Daniel Staller to interim seat after 6-1 vote

"Daniel exudes a passion for the safety, well-being of our students, teachers, and staff," Scott said.
Board member Elijah Colon said he would not vote for Staller and said his own preferred nominee had been Brenda Johnson. Colon said he had favored a candidate "to come in to hit the ground running" and whose experience and ongoing community presence matched that need.
The motion was seconded by Norman Poole. The board recorded six votes in favor, one opposed (Elijah Colon), and one abstention (Malia Huddle). The board chair said Staller will "officially assume his duties upon taking the oath of office as required by law." No date for the oath was announced during the meeting.
The appointment concluded the selection item on the agenda; the board then moved on to the invocation and pledge of allegiance.
