The West Des Moines City Council on June 2 approved a preliminary plat for West Towne Center (to create four lots for existing and proposed commercial development) and separately approved a site plan for a Starbucks at 1450 20th Street.

Council moved to approve the West Towne Center Plat 3 preliminary plat for West Towne Center Associates LLC; the council recorded a 5-0 vote in favor. Immediately following, the council approved the Starbucks site plan — also advanced by staff as a consent item — by the same unanimous vote.

The preliminary plat will allow the developer to create four commercial lots for both existing and proposed development; the Starbucks site plan approval allows the coffee shop project to proceed through the city’s permitting process. Staff indicated both items met the city’s site-plan and subdivision standards.

No public testimony was recorded on either item. Staff will continue with permitting and inspections necessary to implement both projects.
