Warrenton approves addendum to SRO agreement to fund one summer officer

The Warrenton Board of Aldermen on May 20 approved an addendum to the school resource officer (SRO) memorandum of understanding to add one officer to provide coverage during summer school.
City Administrator Brandy Walters told the board the school requested "another officer, not in addition to the four, but one officer for summer for during summer school." Walters said the additional position could be cost-shared with the school and that "it'll still be the two-thirds cost share just like everything else. It's just adding to that." The board moved to read Bill No. 23-25 and later voted to adopt the ordinance.
The measure passed on a roll-call vote of 5-0 with one member absent. The motion for the reading was made by Alderman Lang and seconded by Alderman Roemaker; the final reading vote recorded yes votes from Aldermen Kraft, White, Roemaker, Lane, and Schultz.
The addendum modifies the existing SRO agreement for 2025 to add the summer officer; the ordinance was presented to the board as an amendment to the 2025 memorandum of understanding. No changes to the underlying two-thirds cost-share arrangement were proposed beyond applying it to the summer officer.
City staff noted the additional officer is intended to cover summer-school sessions and did not indicate any further changes to staffing levels during the regular school year.
