The Fulton City Council approved a $2,500 donation to VFW Post 2657 to support the city's annual Fourth of July fireworks display.
Richard Vaughn, representing VFW Post 2657, told the council the police and fire departments assist with safety and that the post typically requests $2,500 from the council each year. "Typically each year, the city council has opted to give $2,500 towards this display," Vaughn said, and he asked the council to consider maintaining or increasing that amount.
A council member moved to approve the $2,500 contribution and included language allowing the VFW to return if additional funding was needed. "I make a motion that we approve the $2,500...with the ability to come back and ask for more if it's needed," a council member said.
The motion passed by voice vote. Vaughn thanked the council and asked that any permit or insurance issues be coordinated with him.
City staff and council members confirmed donated or excess funds for the fireworks are kept in a separate dedicated account and used only for the display.
