The Fulton City Council ratified Resolution 35-80 to purchase a new street sweeper after members said the city's previous sweeper became inoperable and parts were no longer available.
Deputy Mayor Hinchey introduced the resolution, describing the purchase price and trade-in value discussed by staff. "It's like $229,000 and they're gonna give us $44,000 in trade-in," one council member said during the discussion, calculating the remaining amount to be covered. Council members said the purchase is funded from a special equipment fund and will not draw from the general fund.
Council discussion noted crews have gone without a functioning sweeper since around December and that the absence affected cleanup of winter cinders and debris. "We definitely need a street sweeper and I know that Gary and the street crews have really been feeling the heat," Deputy Mayor Hinchey said.
A motion was made and the council voted to ratify the purchase by resolution. Council members framed the purchase as replacement of an obsolete unit and appropriate use of restricted funds.
No grant or external approvals were cited in the meeting; council members said they are exploring grant options but did not delay action because the existing equipment was out of service.
