Accessibility advocates say only one Atlantic County post office is wheelchair accessible; host forum June 9

Evelyn Lynn Kaderson of Seacon told the Atlantic County Board of Commissioners that an unofficial accessibility committee surveyed 26 post offices in the county and found only one — Landisville — to be wheelchair accessible.
"Only 1 is wheelchair accessible, and that's from personal observation. The 1 is Landisville," Kaderson said. She invited commissioners and the public to a forum on June 9 with a focus on "caring for the caretakers," and said the event will include speakers, resources, and a proclamation recognizing the Landisville postmaster for accessibility.
Kaderson noted that post offices are governed by the Architectural Barriers Act (ABA), not the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and that ABA standards do not mandate automated doors. She suggested low-cost interim measures — for example, a doorbell-style alert system at entrances — to better assist patrons who use wheelchairs or who arrive with packages.
Commissioners indicated interest and requested follow-up information so the county can consider supporting accessibility improvements and the forum. No formal action was taken; Kaderson's remarks were recorded as public comment.
