Superintendent highlights graduations, awards and strategic-plan work; announces she will remain a community patron

During her report at the June 9 meeting, Superintendent Tanya (Superintendent, Blue Valley Schools) highlighted end-of-year activities, awards and district initiatives and addressed her last board meeting after a long tenure.
“Blue Valley celebrated the class of 2025 with graduation ceremonies and celebrations,” the superintendent said, noting that one ceremony was held indoors at Blue Valley West and thanking staff who organized the events. She announced that Blue Valley Schools received the 2025 Best Communities for Music Education Award from the NAMM Foundation, one of four districts in Kansas to receive the honor, and described a beam-topping ceremony at the district’s newest middle school under construction.
The superintendent reviewed student and staff recognitions: National Merit Scholarship Corporation awards, perfect ACT and SAT scores, state championships in tennis, swim and dive and track and field, and an art winner whose work will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol. She also noted that the communications department won two national awards from the National School Public Relations Association.
Board members and community members used the superintendent’s report time to thank Tanya for her years of service. In her remarks, the superintendent said she had served 26 years in Blue Valley and 36 years in education overall; she reflected on the district’s academic progress, security upgrades funded through passed bonds, added CTE programs and expanded social-emotional and special-education supports. She also praised the district staff and volunteers and said she will remain “on Team Blue Valley” as a community patron.
In the report the superintendent said she has confidence in the board’s hiring decision and named Dr. Chapman as the person she believes is “the right hire at the right time” to succeed her. The board offered formal remarks of thanks and applause during the meeting.
These remarks were made during the superintendent’s report portion of the agenda and included both operational highlights (awards, programs, construction milestones, strategic-plan work) and farewell comments; no formal board action was required or taken on the retirement during this meeting.
