Laramie County Senior Center to move to new facility July 7; executive director says county will assume operations

Representatives of Laramie County Senior Services spoke during the June 9 budget public hearing to report that the Laramie County Senior Center will be transferred to Laramie County control July 1 and will reopen in a new building at 4100 East Pershing Boulevard on July 7 at 8 a.m.

Erin LeBlanc, director for the Laramie County Senior Center, outlined the center’s staffing stability and growth in congregate meal attendance. LeBlanc said the center increased its nutrition program by 10 percent in the last federal fiscal year and saw a 26 percent year‑over‑year increase in September 2024; breakfast participation rose 30 percent between February and April of the current year. She thanked the city for financial support and staff retention assistance.

Katie Brady, interim executive director for Laramie County Senior Services, said the county board will officially take over operations July 1 and that the new center will operate 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Brady thanked Laramie County taxpayers for the funding that built the new facility and acknowledged the Cheyenne Housing Authority’s prior stewardship of the senior center.

Councilmembers asked about compliance with Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) conditions on the vacated building; staff said they were in communication with Laramie County and that the city’s community development staff and the county are coordinating the exit strategy to avoid federal compliance problems.

Speakers urged council support and expressed optimism about the new facility’s programming and partnerships with local commissioners and agencies.
