Joe Swan, the municipal manager for LRS, introduced himself to the University Heights City Council and members of the public on May 13 and described recent company changes and a renewed focus on customer service for local waste and recycling operations.
"I am with LRS. Been with LRS for about six weeks," Swan said, adding that he is a licensed professional with a master's degree in public administration and a retired fireman. He said LRS has new senior leadership and has hired new local operations managers and other staff, and that the company is revamping its call center and expanding customer-service capacity.
Swan offered a direct contact for the city: "If there's any issues, of course, really anyone could call me, and I dropped my cards with the policy administrator... I have my cell phone number and my email on" the card. He said his goal is to respond promptly even when he does not have an immediate answer.
Swan told the council that Iowa has a unique county-by-county recycling and landfill system and that LRS ships regional recycling to its Chicago processing facility. He encouraged council and residents to contact him if problems arise and said LRS aims to improve responsiveness across the company's Illinois and Iowa service area.
Mayor Louise Fromm thanked Swan for coming and said it is helpful to put a face to the provider. The council did not take formal action on the presentation; Swan spoke during the public-input portion of the meeting.
